Playboi Carti has become one of the most controversial rappers during the past decade. While some have difficulty understanding his mumbled words while rapping, fans still love him for his series of engaging live performances. He also earned raves for his eccentric but interesting fashion sense. It is why he was able to earn approximately $9 million since his rise to stardom. Here is an explanation of how the 24-year-old rapper earned that much money as of the moment.
Playboi Carti: Early Life
Carte, whose legal name is Jordan Terrell Carter, was a native Georgian. He was born in Atlanta on September 13, 1996, but he grew up in the city of Fairburn.
He went to a high school in Sandy Springs called North Springs Charter High School, where he mostly spent time on the basketball court instead of going to class. He knew early on that he does not want to pursue higher education after graduation. Instead, he wanted to join the NBA to have a successful professional basketball career. However, he opted to quit skipping practice and getting into arguments with his coach. He started his interest in music and began a job at H&M at the same time. When he started to take rapping seriously, he decided to leave H&M and pursue a musical career.
Playboi Carti: Rise To Fame
In 2011, Carti started rapping under the moniker Sir Cartier, but later decided to change the name to Playboi Carti by 2013. However, the Internet already removed most of his early performances.
When he decided to have a full-time musical career, he started his life in New York. He decided to move into the house of his drug dealer, where he met some of the members of the ASAP Mob.
He eventually interacted with ASAP Bari, one of the founding members of the group. ASAP Bari heard some of his works, and then he eventually introduced the up-and-coming rapper to ASAP Rocky. Carti realized that he would have better chances to make it big in the industry if he could live with ASAP Rocky in Texas instead of living with his drug dealer in New York.
Carti started getting attention in 2015 after publishing his singles “Broke Boi” and “Fetti” on SoundCloud. During this time, the rapper started to make more collaborations with some of the artists that belonged to the underground rap scene in Atlanta, including his cousin UnoTheActivist, Yung Bans, Thouxanbanfauni, and producers named ICYTWAT and MexikoDro.
The rapper also contributed to ASAP Mob’s hit “Telephone Calls” in 2016. During the same year, he signed a contract with Interscope Records and AWGE imprint.
Carti started to become more successful after releasing his self-titled debut in 2017. It contained two of his most successful singles, including “Magnolia” and “Woke Up Like This.” In 2018, Carti launched his full-length debut album “Die Lit,” which managed to peak at the third spot on the US Billboard 200 chart.
His sophomore album “Whole Lotta Red” was announced in late 2018, but plenty of the songs under the record already leaked online and streamed tens of millions of times.
